Giorgio Scalvini transfer interest and contract renewal

Overview

Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini has signed a contract extension through June 30, 2031, following his development in the club’s youth academy and recent success in the Europa League.

In finalizing the renewal, Scalvini expressed deep gratitude toward the Percassi family and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. Reflecting on his career, the defender highlighted the club’s Europa League victory as a pinnacle and pledged to continue honoring the club’s motto, ‘la maglia sudata sempre’ (always sweating the jersey), for the supporters.

The renewal follows a summer of intense transfer speculation. While reports suggested a potential deal worth approximately €45 million was discussed earlier in the summer, no transfer materialized. Securing the 22-year-old Italian international to a long-term deal provides Atalanta with significantly more leverage in future negotiations should interest from English clubs persist.

Despite the long-term renewal, interest from Premier League clubs remains high. Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester City, and Manchester United have all been linked to the defender as teams look to strengthen their defensive lines. Scalvini, who joined the Atalanta academy in 2015, has made over 140 senior appearances for the club despite recovering from knee and shoulder injuries in recent seasons.
