Global AI and quantum network standardization
Overview
Japanese telecommunications and equipment companies, including NTT, KDDI, and NEC, have formed a collaborative framework to develop all-optical networks designed to meet the low latency and low power requirements of AI technology. This effort resulted in the ‘ITU-T Recommendation Y.3335’ standardization, which provides design guidelines for energy-efficient communication paths. Concurrently, companies like MediaTek are advancing connectivity technologies, such as Wi-Fi 8 and 5G-Advanced, to extend AI computing power from data centers to end-users.
Building on these infrastructure advancements, NTT has proposed further international standardization efforts at an ITU-T roundtable in New Delhi. This proposal focuses on creating network architectures that interconnect quantum computers, AI infrastructure, and data centers. NTT intends to host the 2027 CxO Roundtable in Japan to continue global discussions on the future of information and communication infrastructure.
