Global mining sector profit increases

During the first half of 2026, various mining companies in China, Indonesia, Morocco, and Senegal reported significant profit increases, largely attributed to rising commodity prices for coal, gold, silver, and copper.

In Asia, Chinese coal producers saw substantial gains, with China Shenhua reporting a net profit of approximately Rp75.53 trillion. In Indonesia, the state-owned holding company MIND ID saw its aggregate net profit surge by 116.67% to Rp13.60 trillion.

In Africa, the Moroccan company Managem reported a 166% increase in consolidated revenue to 11.76 billion dirhams. This growth was driven by the successful integration of new mining operations, specifically the Tizert mine in Morocco and the Boto mine in Senegal.

Managem’s EBITDA rose by over 300% to 6.19 billion dirhams, resulting in an operating margin of 53%. Net profit attributable to the group reached approximately 3.77 billion dirhams, a significant rise from 380 million dirhams in the previous year. However, the company noted operational challenges, as production levels for silver at Imiter and gold at Tri-K declined during the semester.
