Municipalities across Latin America continue to implement LED lighting modernization projects to enhance energy efficiency and public safety. In Argentina, the Municipality of Paraná has reached 89 percent LED coverage through its ‘Paraná 100% LED’ plan. Recent installations in the Parque del Lago neighborhood utilized columns made from a plastic and fiber combination designed to prevent cable theft, offering energy savings exceeding 50 percent. Additionally, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Water and Energy completed a two-year project at the Centro Cívico, replacing approximately 15,000 fluorescent tubes with 18-watt LED units. This transition reduced electricity consumption for those fixtures by half. To manage environmental impact, authorities processed 3.5 tons of decommissioned tubes using a specialized system to capture mercury vapor and phosphorus. Expansion continues in ~~Peru,~~ Argentina, where San Rafael is replacing sodium lamps with LED units in districts including Cañada Seca and Goudge, with future work planned for Real del Padre, Las Paredes, and Villa Atuel. In Venado Tuerto, authorities completed the replacement of 120 LED luminaires on Castelli Street to improve nighttime transit in the Centro I, Norte, and Malvinas Argentinas neighborhoods. In Peru, ENOSA installed 16,981 LED luminaires across the Piura and Tumbes departments between January and August 2026. In Bolivia, the Colcapirhua Mayoralty is nearing 100 percent coverage after installing 7,273 units with intelligent management features. In Brazil, the ‘Foz Cidade Iluminada’ program in Foz do Iguaçu has replaced nearly 15,000 lighting points, covering over 35 percent of the city’s network. Further modernization is occurring in São Ludgero and Rio das Antas. In Votuporanga, Brazil, the Mayor has requested authorization for R$ 21 million in loans from Desenvolve SP to modernize public lighting by replacing 16,851 conventional lamps with LED technology, a move estimated to reduce energy consumption by approximately 51%. ~~In Mexico, Tlalnepantla has launched the ‘Luminarias Nuestra Ciudad’ program to eliminate dark spots.~~
