Global port infrastructure and crane technology updates

Overview

The Port of Hamburg's Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) has commissioned its first remote-controlled rail gantry cranes to improve efficiency in rail processing. This upgrade involves a new crane manufactured by Künz and the retrofitting of an existing crane, allowing operators to manage equipment from ergonomic workstations within the terminal building.

Separately, the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) has invested $13.2 million to commission two new Liebherr mobile harbour cranes. These units, which have a handling capacity of 360 to 400 tonnes per hour, will serve as backup capacity to ensure operational predictability during maintenance and support increasing volumes in bulk mineral handling.
