Global Smart City Expo developments

Global Smart City Expos are convening to address urban challenges through technological innovation and resilience.

In Miami, the seventh edition of the Smart City Expo focuses on ‘Urban Intelligence for a Regenerative Future.’ The event emphasizes using data, AI, and human creativity to improve urban life and environmental restoration. Discussions highlight a shift toward AI agents capable of orchestrating tasks across municipal departments, such as utilities and public safety, to bridge coordination gaps.

In Cali, Colombia, the fourth edition of the Smart City Expo operates under the theme ‘Bio-intelligent Cities: Innovation for Life.’ Scheduled for September 30 and October 1, 2026, at the Centro de Eventos Valle del Pacífico, the summit is organized by the Alcaldía de Santiago de Cali, EMCALI, Fira Barcelona, and Corferias. The event aims to establish Cali as a Latin American reference for urban innovation, hosting over 3,000 professionals and 75 experts.

A primary focus of the Cali summit is urban resilience and reconstruction following the earthquake that impacted the region in August. The agenda is structured around four key pillars: intelligent mobility and territorial connectivity; safe, resilient, and healthy cities; sustainable energy and the environment; and public innovation, creativity, and emerging technologies. The event seeks to foster collaboration between the public and private sectors to address urban challenges through technological solutions.

Recent reports indicate that the Smart City Expo Cali continues to emphasize urban reconstruction and resilience following recent seismic activity, highlighting the importance of bio-intelligent cities and public-private collaboration within a broader regional trend of technological summits and trade fairs driving digital growth across Latin America and Spain.
