Overview
In 2026, global wildfire activity reached critical levels, with over 112 million hectares burned during the first seven months of the year. Africa accounted for 55% of the total burned surface area, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Australia, and Angola experiencing significant impacts.

Other international efforts include the use of drones and ‘X Fire’ extinguishing formulas in Indonesia, successful AI-supported drone testing in Germany’s Harz mountains, and investments in AI-based smart surveillance systems in South Korea.
