The Globoplay original series ‘Emergência 53’ has premiered. Created by Claudio Torres, Márcio Maranhão, and Andrucha Waddington, the ten-episode production is inspired by the Brazilian SAMU service. Unlike previous works set in hospitals, this series focuses on the work of mobile emergency service units navigating various social environments, from luxury hotels to high-crime communities. To prepare for the roles, ensure authenticity, the cast underwent training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of defibrillators, while actors rigorous preparation. Actors Jaffar Bambirra and Ana Hikari obtained licenses to drive emergency vehicles. The series features vehicles, while others, including Valentina Herszage, practiced real rescue maneuvers such as cardiac massage and the use of defibrillators. Emílio Dantas as portrays a brilliant general surgeon managing bipolar disorder. disorder; he prepared for the role by shadowing mobile emergency professionals. The series utilizes a multi-protagonist approach, focusing on eight main characters including doctors, nurses, and drivers. Renowned actress Fernanda Montenegro makes a special appearance as Dona Laura, the mother of the unit’s chief physician, portraying an elderly woman facing a serious degenerative disease. The production previously received the ‘Studio Babelsberg Production Excellence Award’ at the Berlinale Series Market.
