Golden State Valkyries WNBA postseason run

Overview

The Golden State Valkyries began their postseason by defeating the Las Vegas Aces 71-60 in the opening game of the WNBA semifinal best-of-five series. Led by Gabby Williams’ 25 points and Kiah Stokes’ defensive performance, the Valkyries secured a 1-0 series lead by outperforming the defending champions on the glass.

Following their semifinal success, the Valkyries advanced to the WNBA Finals against the Atlanta Dream. In Game 5, Golden State secured a 64-55 victory at the Chase Center, moving to a 3-2 series lead and placing themselves one win away from their first championship in only their second season. The Valkyries' defense was a decisive factor, holding Atlanta to a 29.2% field goal percentage and forcing 17 turnovers. Kiah Stokes and Veronica Burton both contributed 13 points and eight rebounds.

Atlanta's Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 20 points, while Angel Reese recorded seven points and 15 rebounds. Following the loss, Reese expressed frustration regarding “officiating consistency and the physical play during the contest.” Due to scheduling conflicts with the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena, Game 6 is set to take place in Atlanta during an unusual early-afternoon time slot.
