Google Android application interface updates

Google is implementing a series of interface redesigns and feature updates across its suite of Android communication and media applications.

Initial updates focused on the Phone and Photos apps. The Phone app is restoring a dedicated contacts tab to its bottom menu bar and introducing local audio transcription capabilities for Pixel hardware. This feature allows a voice assistant to answer calls and generate real-time text transcriptions locally on the device. Google Photos is receiving a redesigned Collections tab that includes a customizable ‘Pinned’ section and improved organization for albums and categories.

Subsequent testing has expanded to include Google Messages and Google Contacts. Google Messages is undergoing a homepage redesign in its beta channel, featuring a new layout for pinned chats, a floating search button for improved usability, and a relocated Gemini shortcut. Furthermore, Google is introducing a refreshed icon design for Messages, Phone, and Contacts, utilizing blue and purple gradients to create a more cohesive visual identity.
