Google retail expansion and Pixel 11 launch in Japan
Google has expanded its retail presence in Japan with the opening of its first flagship store outside the United States. Located in the Omotesando district of Tokyo within Tokyu Plaza Omokado, the three-story Google Store Omotesando covers 1,158 square meters, making it larger than existing U.S. locations. The facility provides hardware sales for Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit products, including demonstrations for the Pixel 11 series. It offers technical support, in-store repairs, product pickups, Pixel Care+ services, and device trade-ins. The store features specialized zones such as the ‘Pixel Studio,’ which utilizes Gemini AI to allow visitors to transform photos into various artistic styles, including ukiyo-e and plush toy aesthetics. Additionally, the location hosts exhibitions, workshops, and partner brands like Casefinite. Mauria Finley, Vice President of Google Store, stated that Japan is a “critical market for the Pixel portfolio,” noting rapid user growth in the region. The new facility allows the company to engage directly with consumers, reducing its reliance on mobile carriers such as SoftBank or Rakuten. In mid-August 2026, Google announced the launch of the Pixel 11 series, with pre-orders beginning ahead of an August 20 release date. This product rollout includes the Pixel Watch 5 and the Google Pixel Tag.
