Google DeepMind and Google Research have released WeatherNext 3, a new AI-driven meteorological model. WeatherNext 3 provides a significant increase in resolution over its predecessor, WeatherNext 2, moving from a 25km grid to a 5km resolution for ground-level variables such as temperature and humidity. The model also features improved precipitation forecasting accuracy, with improvements of up to 60% compared to NASA IMERG benchmarks. Additionally, the model incorporates variables for renewable energy forecasting, including solar radiation levels and wind speeds at 100 meters.
