Gran Jujuy metropolitan system expansion
Overview
Presidents of the Deliberative Councils in the Gran Jujuy metropolitan area initially met to coordinate the expansion of the metropolitan system. The group aimed to incorporate the municipalities of Perico, El Carmen, and Monterrico into the existing network, which already included San Salvador de Jujuy, Palpalá, Yala, and San Antonio.
Following these discussions, El Carmen and Monterrico officially joined the integration space through a framework agreement for reciprocal collaboration. This expansion increased the total number of participating municipalities to seven. Local leaders, including San Salvador de Jujuy Mayor Raúl ‘Chuli’ Jorge and Governor Carlos Sadir, stated that the collaboration is intended to address shared public policy challenges such as transportation, waste management, environmental protection, and mental health. The integrated group now represents approximately 60% of the population of Jujuy province.
