Gran Turismo franchise hardware and software updates

Overview

The Gran Turismo franchise is seeing a series of hardware and software expansions. Thrustmaster announced the T-GT III, an officially licensed steering wheel bundle for Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 and PS5, featuring Direct Axial Drive technology and integrated load-cell pedals.

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital have announced a limited-edition DualSense wireless controller to commemorate the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The controller features a white design with black racing stripes, motorsport-inspired graphics, and a carbon-fiber-style texture. Pre-orders are scheduled to begin on October 22, with a global release set for December 10 at a retail price of approximately $84.99, €84.99, or £74.99. Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, stated the controller celebrates the journey shared with fans over three decades.

This announcement coincided with the release of the first part of the Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV update, which introduced the Sportsland Sugo circuit in Japan and six new vehicles: the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo, Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, Honda Civic Si Group A, Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo, Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line, and the Citroën 2CV 6 Charleston. The update also includes technical refinements to vehicle physics, such as improved tire contact models and weight transfer, a new Retro section in Brand Central, and an increased collector level cap, raising it from 70 to 90.

Further features in the Spec IV update include an Experience mode, new Scapes locations, expanded Car Viewer capabilities, and new World Circuit events. A second part of the Spec IV update is expected to arrive in December.
