Agricultural authorities in Greece have expanded bait spraying programs to combat the olive fruit fly across several regions. In Achaia, the second general spraying cycle began on 31 August, covering various communities in Patras and Aigialeia. However, legal appeals during the bidding process have left some areas in West Achaia and Aigialeia without designated contractors, requiring farmers to manage pest control independently. In Crete, the second spraying phase is nearing completion. A third round has commenced in northern Heraklion, with further expansions contingent on weather and pest levels. Due to unsuccessful tender processes, scheduled sprayings will not occur in parts of ~~Chania (including Souda, Apteroi, Tsikalarion, Aroni, Sternon, and Kounoupidianon),~~ Chania, Agios ~~Nikolaos (Vroucha, Skinia, and Louma), and Ierapetra (Kalamafkas, Makrylia,~~ Nikolaos, and ~~Meselera).~~ Ierapetra. In Zakynthos, a second bait spraying program is scheduled to begin on 17 September, lasting eight days and covering areas such as Kato Gerakari, Galaro, and Agioi Pantes. Authorities have issued safety ~~advisories for these operations:~~ advisories: beekeepers and livestock owners should move hives and animals away from treated areas, and organic farmers must clearly mark their plots to prevent accidental spraying. Farmers are also asked to clear groves of weeds and obstacles to ensure efficiency.
