The Greek Ministry of Tourism introduced the “TAG GREECE – Tradition, Agritourism and Gastronomy” initiative to establish a unified international identity for the nation’s culinary and agricultural sectors. Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni stated presented the campaign at the World Travel Market in London, stating the program aims to showcase local production and hospitality to encourage year-round travel and regional distribution. The initiative seeks to connect agricultural production, culinary traditions, and rural hospitality to offer travelers experiences beyond traditional monuments and beaches. Minister Kefalogianni emphasized the connection between Greek food, nature, and history, specifically highlighting the role of indigenous grape varieties and contemporary chefs using local products. Initial efforts included targeted promotional campaigns in markets like France, focusing on cultural experiences such as the heritage of Patmos. While Greece reported a 10% year-on-year increase in international arrivals during the first eight months of 2026, data indicated declines in arrivals and spending from the French market. The initiative expanded with the “Come Closer to Greece” campaign, which emphasizes sustainable tourism by connecting travel with cultural heritage and rural production. This phase includes a multi-level communication plan across digital and traditional media, alongside a roadshow visiting 12 Greek destinations, including Syros and Chios, to engage local communities.
