In late July 2026, the Greek Ministry of National Defence began issuing enlistment instructions for the third-year conscription (G' ESSO) scheme. The Navy announced reporting dates of 1 September at the KEN Aulona centre or 31 August at the Naval Hospital in Piraeus for those with health-related postponements. Required documentation includes tax ID, social security number, bank IBAN, and a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 48 hours. Enlistment notices are to be delivered electronically via the taxisnet portal. The Army’s General Staff set presentation appointments between 31 August and 4 September 2026, with separate sessions in late August for health-postponed conscripts. Eligibility includes the 2029 class (born 1 January–15 May 2008), the 2028 class (born 2007 in specific prefectures), and individuals born 1982–2007 whose duty arose between 1 February and 30 April 2026. Required documents include a police ID, classification note, medical record, chest X-ray, and blood-group certification. On 19 August, the Greek Recruitment Service provided clarifications under Law 5265/2026. For the first time, certain conscripts—specifically those born between 1 January and 15 May 2008—may complete their primary military obligation in nine months, provided they enlist with their original class call-up. Under Article 246, soldiers who fulfill their full primary military obligation upon their initial call can be permanently discharged after nine months of actual service. This measure is intended to incentivize fulfilling military duties at a younger age. Additionally, new rules regarding study deferments allow prospective students of higher or tertiary education to apply for a deferment without being officially enrolled in an institution first. Under Article 188, providing documentation that proves a right to participate in the admission or registration process is sufficient.
