Greece has begun relocating a Patriot missile defense battery from the island of Karpathos to the Souda military base on Crete. The redeployment follows intelligence assessments suggesting potential Iranian strikes against US and NATO military installations in southeastern Europe. Reports indicate that Iran possesses ballistic missiles with ranges exceeding 2,000 kilometers, capable of reaching regional targets including sites in Bulgaria and Cyprus. Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis characterized the relocation as an “exclusively operational matter” based on recommendations from the General Staff of National Defense. In addition to the movement on Crete, the Greek government is reviewing the status of a separate Patriot battery deployed in Saudi Arabia under a bilateral agreement, agreement.
