In early July 2026 Minister Domna Michailidou unveiled a social‑support package that refunds two months’ rent for public servants away from home, expands renovation grants to cover up to 95 % of costs, creates social‑rented homes on public land and offers a €10,000 relocation subsidy for families moving permanently to Florina and Kastoria. The Personal Assistant programme for people with disabilities was made permanent, doubling eligible beneficiaries to roughly 3,600, shifting selection to an objective scoring system and issuing a Disability Card to all disability‑benefit recipients. Two weeks later the minister defended the Personal Assistant law and an early‑childhood intervention programme in parliament, citing a successful case from Ioannina and noting that families could receive up to €800 a month. Opposition parties and the Pan‑Hellenic Association of OPEKA workers criticised the exclusion of OPEKA representatives from oversight committees and warned about funding gaps after EU support ends. On 21 July a draft law was debated that would codify permanent personal‑assistant services, extend early‑intervention for children with developmental challenges, repurpose idle public property for social‑housing projects and address pension issues for retired public‑sector employees. New Democracy MP Theofilos Leontaridis praised the measures as a response to demographic decline in northern regions such as Serres, while Syriza‑aligned MP Theodoros Xanthopoulos condemned the perceived exclusion of disabled citizens and called for the removal of procedural hurdles. On 30 July Michailidou announced the creation of the first 2,000 social‑housing units on public land, built with the Ministry of National Defence and funded by EU resources. The “AnaKainoso” “AnaKainiso” renovation scheme will grant up to €36,000 per household, with the state covering 75‑95 75 %–95 % of costs.
