Greek economic and social financial measures

Overview

Greece has implemented a series of financial measures and administrative updates targeting debt relief, social welfare, and economic investment.

Initial measures focused on debt restructuring for borrowers under the Katseli Law. Following a Supreme Court decision, interest calculations will shift from the total loan amount to monthly installments, reducing monthly payments for many debtors. Additionally, a timeline for IMF-related financial aid was established, including retroactive rent payments for professionals such as doctors and educators, fuel tax refunds for farmers, and allowances for pensioners and citizens with disabilities.

Subsequent updates expanded support to businesses and the agricultural sector. In Just Transition Areas, the deadline for investment aid applications for technological and energy modernization was extended to November 16, 2026. Agricultural producers gained access to new investment requests for livestock bio-security and disaster protection under the Common Agricultural Policy. Furthermore, the government announced refunds for overpaid social security contributions for self-employed individuals and farmers, alongside a debt settlement regulation allowing old tax and social security debts to be repaid in up to 120 monthly installments.
