As the 2026-27 academic year begins, Greece is finalizing preparations for school reopenings and vocational training enrollments. Primary and secondary schools are scheduled to reopen on 11 September 2026, with the first day dedicated to religious ceremonies, student orientation, and book distribution, followed by regular classes on 14 September. To support the term, the Ministry of Education has initiated the recruitment of approximately 30,000 substitute teachers. Educational reforms remain a focus, including the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and a national dialogue regarding the New Lyceum, the National Baccalaureate, and Artificial Intelligence integration. Vocational training is seeing significant expansion. The Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) is conducting registration for 30 Higher Vocational Training Schools (SAEK), offering 46 specialties. Additionally, the Post-Secondary Year Apprenticeship Program has grown, with available positions increasing by 12% to 15,762, largely driven by the private sector (72.4%). To further bridge the gap between labor supply and demand, market gaps, DYPA is expanding its Vocational Apprenticeship School (EPAS) network. Four new branches are being established in Kryoneri, Stratoni, Sindos, and Karpenisi, focusing on industrial automation, heavy machinery operation, horticulture, and hospitality. By the 2026-2027 year, the network will include to 50 apprenticeship schools offering 41 specialties. In schools.
