Greece has implemented reforms to its military recruitment and service structures. Under Law 5265/2026, recruits born between January 1 and May 15, 2008, who enlist in late 2026, may qualify for a reduced nine-month service period, provided they complete their obligation without interruption. Those requesting higher education deferments are ineligible for this reduction. Parallel to mandatory service reforms, the Ministry of National Defense initiated the recruitment of 1,000 Professional Soldiers (EPOPs) for 2026. By early October 2026, the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) required applicants with incomplete documentation to submit missing files via email by October 8 to avoid disqualification. Following the release of suitability results, the HNDGS completed the scoring process by specialty on October 20. Candidates can access scores via electronic portals, with a scoring appeal deadline of October 23, 2026. Selected candidates must present identification and a negative RAPID test result obtained within 48 hours of their examination. Administrative shifts have impacted conscripts; those originally scheduled for November 2026 have been rescheduled to January 2027 due to an unexpected surge in applicants that created logistical challenges regarding equipment and personnel care. To address this, the Ministry plans to open additional training centers. Furthermore, the Navy and Air Force training centers will no longer accept privates to ensure homogeneous training, moving enlistment exclusively through Army recruitment centers. New ministerial regulations also define training durations for the Hellenic Army. Standard conscripts will undergo a ten-week first stage, including four weeks of initial training and five weeks of combatant training. Candidate Reserve Officers (YEA) will undergo a nine-week first stage, while Reserve Officer Cadets (DEA) will undergo a five-week period.
