In July 2026 the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected Metropolitan Apostolos Koulafakis, a Rhodes‑born hierarch, as the new Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Canada, succeeding Archbishop Sotirios after his 52‑year tenure.
