The Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) continues to implement various labor initiatives. This includes evaluating a pilot unemployment benefit program for 15,000 individuals, where payments of up to 1,295 euros are front-loaded and decrease quarterly from 70% to 40% of the minimum wage. DYPA is also facilitating job seeker connections through technical training, career counseling, and workshops. To support decarbonization, the Just Transition Plan is creating 2,700 positions in regions like Western Macedonia and Megalopolis. Other large-scale programs target women, mothers, and individuals over 50. Notably, DYPA has expanded its employment program for individuals aged 55 to 74 by adding 8,000 positions, bringing the total target to 43,000 roles within public sector entities. DYPA subsidizes 75% of salary and insurance costs for these positions, up to 750 euros per month. New DYPA initiatives include a plan to launch 35,500 subsidized positions. This comprises 5,500 roles for individuals aged 18 to 29 in the private sector, with subsidies potentially covering up to 100% of costs, and 30,000 roles for those aged 30 and older, focusing on women and individuals over 50, with subsidies covering approximately 80% of salary costs. Additionally, a teleworking program is set to launch by late November, aiming to create 1,000 positions for unemployed residents in mountainous and remote areas. Backed by approximately 15.756 million euros, the program will subsidize 90% of payroll and insurance costs for 12 months, with expected monthly gross salaries up to 1,300 euros. To combat demographic decline, the government is expanding resettlement efforts through the Demographic Development Program. Following a pilot in Evros, the program now covers ten regional units, including Drama, Kozani, Ioannina, Florina, Kilkis, Serres, Pella, Kastoria, Grevena, and Thesprotia. It also includes specific municipalities in Epirus such as Konitsa, Zagori, and Metsovo. Eligible households can receive a 10,000 euro subsidy, paid in two 5,000 euro installments, with an advance available upon approval. To retain the benefit, residents must remain in the area for at least five years. A significant policy change has removed the requirement for applicants to have pre-existing employment in the destination area, making the program accessible to remote workers, retirees, and the unemployed. Starting December 2026, the program will extend to remote North and South Aegean islands.
