As the August 15 holiday approached, severe weather conditions and high winds reaching up to 9 Beaufort caused significant disruptions, including sailing bans at Rafina and Lavrio and several ferry cancellations in the Aegean. Operational pressure remained high in the aviation sector, with Heraklion International Airport handling over 181,000 passengers in a single three-day period. To manage the rush, Hellenic Police implemented enhanced road safety measures, including increased patrols and restrictions prohibiting trucks exceeding 3.5 tons from entering inbound lanes during peak hours. Following the August 15 holiday, the focus shifted to the return of travelers to Attica. Significant traffic congestion was reported on the Athens-Corinth National Highway, particularly between Megara and Nea Peramos, while the Athens-Lamia route remained relatively clear. Police data recorded approximately 58,051 vehicles returning to Attica during a 12-hour period on August 16. By the final week of August, heavy traffic persisted at Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio ports. Minister Recent data indicates a dual flow of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, inspected Piraeus, stating ‘the tourist season has not ended’ as demand for movement: 50,707 passengers arrived at Attica's entry gates, while 33,372 departed from its ports. On a single day, 44 vessel departures were scheduled across the Cyclades three main ports, including 22 from Piraeus, 14 from Rafina, and Saronic islands remains high. 8 from Lavrio.
