Greenland critical mineral exploration

In July 2026, two separate mining companies began field operations in Greenland to develop deposits of minerals deemed critical for Western supply chains.

GreenX Metals launched work at its Eleonore North project in eastern Greenland, focusing on high‑grade gold, tungsten and antimony. The programme includes follow‑up drilling, bulk‑sample collection and metallurgical testing, with the company highlighting the project's location in a stable jurisdiction as an alternative to China‑dominated sources of tungsten and antimony.

A week later, Greenland Mines started its 2026 field season at the Skaergaard Project in southeast Greenland. The effort centres on rare‑earth elements, deploying a support vessel, drill rigs, geophysical tools and extensive surveying to upgrade resources and assess both open‑pit and underground mining scenarios.

Both initiatives reflect a broader push to build a multi‑asset platform for critical minerals in Greenland, aiming to secure supplies for renewable‑energy technologies, electric vehicles and defence applications.
