Guerrero animal welfare municipal support program

Overview

The Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) announced a support program for 212 municipalities to strengthen animal welfare initiatives. The strategy includes providing specialized supplies for surgical sterilization campaigns and promoting responsible adoption programs.

Luz Mariela Zaleta Mendoza, head of Sedema, stated that the agency will provide technical guidance to help local governments establish Animal Welfare areas and Animal Health Centers. The initiative involves distributing sterilization kits and medical instruments to ensure procedures are performed by qualified veterinarians.

Additionally, Sedema is coordinating networks with civil associations and shelters, while working under a tripartite collaboration agreement with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the Environmental Prosecutor's Office (PMA) to address animal cruelty and mistreatment cases.
