Guerrero mass kidnapping incident

Overview

In late September 2026, large groups of armed gunmen entered the village of El Balcón in Ajuchitlán del Progreso, Guerrero, to conduct a mass kidnapping. Survivors of the incident, who were held for 22 days, reported being subjected to physical torture and severe food restrictions.

While specific accounts identified several victims, including an elderly man, a teenager, and a mezcal producer, survivors estimated that approximately 136 people, including women and children, were taken in total. Reports suggest the abductions may be linked to criminal organizations, such as La Familia Michoacana, seeking to expand territorial control and seize land for timber resources. While some individuals have been released, at least one person remains missing.
