Gujarat emergency medical transport services
Overview
Gujarat has implemented specialized emergency medical transport services to reach remote or critically ill patients. The state’s boat ambulance service, part of the 108 Emergency Response Service, recorded 777 interventions between April 2018 and September 2026. This service primarily assists residents of coastal villages, offshore fishing crews, and remote islands, with pregnancy-related complications accounting for approximately 46 per cent of cases.
Complementing maritime transport, the government-operated air ambulance service has approached 100 missions since its 2022 launch. Utilizing a Beechcraft King Air B200, the service has completed 98 missions, including 48 patient transfers and 50 organ transportation operations. The air service aims to reduce travel time for critical patients and facilitates time-sensitive transplants through coordination between the Civil Aviation Department, GUJSAIL, and local hospitals.
