Overview

The Gujarat state government has implemented several initiatives aimed at supporting student welfare and education.

In July 2026, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel launched 139 new Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) buses under the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Janjatiya Gaurav Parivahan Seva scheme. This initiative, costing Rs 33.84 crore, provides GPS-equipped transport for over 4,100 tribal students from remote districts to improve school and college attendance.

Following this, in August 2026, the Chief Minister oversaw the disbursement of over Rs 646 crore in financial assistance to more than 472,260 students via Direct Benefit Transfer. A major portion of these funds, exceeding Rs 513 crore, was allocated to female students through the ‘Namo Laxmi Yojana’ for those who passed Class 10 and Class 12 examinations. Additional funds were distributed through the ‘Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana’ for science students and various other higher education and research schemes.
