Gyeonggi Province AI development initiatives

Gyeonggi Province has launched several strategic initiatives to advance artificial intelligence technology and infrastructure. The province announced a transition toward ‘Physical AI’, which integrates artificial intelligence with robotics and machinery to perform real-world tasks. This initiative involves a collaborative network of 66 institutions and a phased implementation strategy: starting with manufacturing innovation, expanding to disaster response and firefighting by 2027, and extending to daily care services for the elderly and people with disabilities by 2029. A Gyeonggi Physical AI Diffusion Center is being established in Siheung to support small and medium-sized enterprises with equipment and technical consulting.

In parallel, the province is working to host the Global AI Hub, a multilateral cooperation platform developed by the South Korean government alongside international organizations and multilateral development banks. Through strategy forums, the administration is focusing on AI infrastructure competitiveness and accelerating AI transformation for local businesses to ensure all 31 cities and counties in the province can participate in the hub’s benefits.
