Gyeongsangbuk-do AI and robotics industry development

Overview

Gyeongsangbuk-do is implementing several initiatives to integrate artificial intelligence and robotics into its regional industrial sectors.

In the northern region, the province established the Northern Gyeongsangbuk-do AI Robot Enterprise Council. This council, comprising 12 companies from Gimcheon, Andong, Yeongju, and Sangju, aims to integrate small and medium-sized enterprises into the robot industry supply chain. Strategic goals include utilizing precision machining capabilities in Yeongju for core components and expanding the use of agricultural robots through field testing and distribution.

Simultaneously, the province is driving AI transformation (AX) through large-scale projects. In Pohang, a 22.1 billion KRW initiative is working to digitize the expertise of skilled workers within the steel industrial complex to improve production and logistics. In Gyeongsan, a partnership with FuriosaAI has established a demonstration hub for domestic AI semiconductors, allowing regional companies to test locally developed Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for use in manufacturing, robotics, and mobility.
