Hanam City childcare and infrastructure expansion

Following research indicating that Hanam City holds the highest Infant Net Migration Index in South Korea, local authorities have initiated a series of infrastructure and service expansions to accommodate an influx of young families.

Mayor Lee Hyun-jae announced an organizational restructuring to integrate childcare services for infants, children, and elementary students under a single division. This initiative aims to provide continuous support, including 24-hour care and school-linked services. Long-term projects include the opening of a children’s English library, the establishment of a children’s center by 2027, and the construction of the Gyosan School Complex, which is slated for completion by 2030.

As part of these efforts, the city is developing a Hanam Children’s Hall. An advisory committee of experts and residents has been reviewing design plans to ensure the facility includes inclusive spaces for children with disabilities and interactive digital content. To support these developments, Hanam City has secured various special grants and entered into a business agreement with KidZania to incorporate experiential content into the facility.
