Hanoi Tourism College corruption sentencing

Overview

The People's Court of Hanoi sentenced Pham Van Long, the former Principal of Hanoi Tourism College, to three years in prison for “misusing one's position and powers while performing official duties.”

Investigators determined that Long, alongside former Head of Student Affairs Nguyen Tuan Ngoc and former specialist Nguyen Van Sang, orchestrated a scheme to withhold over 200 million VND from support funds intended for nearly 1,000 students participating in the A80 program. While the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism had approved more than 1.9 billion VND for the students, the defendants falsified documents to reduce individual payments and divert the remaining funds for personal gain.

In addition to Long, Nguyen Tuan Ngoc received a 30-month prison sentence, while Nguyen Van Sang was sentenced to 24 months with a suspended sentence.
