Hanwha Ocean maritime and offshore design certifications

Overview

Hanwha Ocean has received several certifications and approvals from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) regarding new maritime and offshore designs.

In early September, ABS issued a Basic Design Review certification to Hanwha Ocean for a standardized floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) design. This design targets deepwater markets in West Africa and South America, focusing on technical standards for hulls, topsides, and mooring to improve efficiency and cost competitiveness.

By late September, at Gastech 2026, ABS granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Hanwha Ocean for a multi-purpose fuel tank and fuel gas supply system. This technology is intended for electrically-propelled LNG carriers, allowing them to transition from LNG to ammonia fuel without replacing existing infrastructure.
