The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs has officially released the theme, logo, and schedule for the 2026 Hari Santri commemorations. The theme, ‘Santri Menguatkan Negeri Menuju Indonesia Emas’, focuses on the role of Islamic boarding school students in building a competitive nation toward the 2045 vision. Key national initiatives include the ‘Pesantren Award’, an expo of pesantren-based businesses, and a ‘Surat Santri untuk Presiden’ competition, which allows students to submit aspirations regarding education, the environment, and public welfare directly to President Prabowo Subianto. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar noted that the event serves as momentum to honor the historical impact of the ‘Resolusi Jihad’ on Indonesia’s history. On October 22, 2026, the day was officially observed with ceremonies across the country and abroad. In Jakarta, the national ceremony included the recitation of the Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Jihad Resolution, and the Santri Pledge. Representing President Prabowo Subianto, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi expressed appreciation for the role of pesantren in character building and national unity. Regional celebrations were held in Riau, Bogor, Lampung Barat, Karawang, and Ciamis, while a declaration was made in Kutai Kartanegara to establish child-friendly pesantren. Local activities also included prayer services for rain in Banyumas and sports in Yogyakarta. In Sukabumi, Regent H. Asep Japar attended commemorations at the Korpri Gelanggang Cisaat Stadium, urging students to master science, technology, and innovation to contribute to regional and national development. To support the future of santri, the Ministry announced five strategic programs: the SAFESANTRI student protection program, the recognition of pesantren diplomas to enhance employment, and initiatives for technological mastery, economic independence, and digital proselytization. Minister Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that these programs aim to protect students from violence and ensure education provides competitive opportunities. International observances included an assembly by Nahdlatul Ulama students in Cairo, Egypt, where 43 students were recognized for academic achievements at Al-Azhar University.
