Healthcare humanization and pain management initiatives

Healthcare initiatives in Cuba and Spain have focused on improving pain management and the humanization of medical services.

In Matanzas, Cuba, a new multidisciplinary service for acute and chronic pain is being launched through a research project by the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas. The service will utilize a team of specialists, including neurosurgeons and orthopedists, employing methods such as ozonotherapy, acupuncture, and electrotherapy. The project also aims to support humanized childbirth by providing analgesia during labor.

In Spain, the Valencian Community implemented an Integral and Interdisciplinary Plan for Pain Care to address chronic pain affecting approximately 26.1% of the adult population. This strategy emphasizes early detection and coordination between primary and hospital-level resources. Furthering the goal of humanizing healthcare, the Xàtiva-Ontinyent Health Department established a Humanization Commission. This body focuses on integrating patient feedback into service improvements and utilizing environmental design, such as multisensory stimulation from nature, to reduce stress and anxiety for patients and professionals.
