Heřmanův Městec bus infrastructure challenges

In mid‑July 2026 the new bus terminal in Heřmanův Městec was found to fall far short of its EU‑funded performance targets, averaging only about a dozen departures a day against a required forty. This shortfall threatened a repayment of more than €27 million to the EU and raised concerns about the town’s ability to secure future funding.

A second report later in July described municipal measures aimed at addressing the problem. The town introduced a regulation banning buses from parking on the market square and created a dedicated parking facility behind the railway station. New bus shelters and unified signage were installed, and local police began monitoring compliance. These steps were presented as part of a broader effort to improve bus usage and align the transport network with the conditions attached to EU support.

On 1 July the municipal council formally voted to prohibit buses from parking on the town square, an action tied to an agreement with the Railway Administration that established the dedicated bus‑parking area near the station. City police were deployed to enforce the ban. This decision was confirmed in a July 27 report that also noted parallel transport‑infrastructure upgrades in other Czech towns, underscoring a regional push to modernise public‑transport facilities.
