The municipal administration in Hermosillo, Sonora, has introduced several initiatives focused on citizen engagement and public safety. Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez launched the CRECES Budget program, a participatory budgeting initiative allocating 100 million pesos for local public works. The program has grown from an initial 40 million pesos in 2022 and was recently recognized with the ‘Premio NovaGob México 2026’ for innovation in citizen participation. In his second government report, the Mayor highlighted significant advancements in security and infrastructure. Additionally, the city reported the creation of 11,644 formal jobs between January and August 2026, reaching its lowest unemployment rate in 25 years. While the Mayor suggested potential aspirations for the governorship of Sonora, his management continues to receive endorsements from local business leaders.
