In Hidalgo, Mexico, the State Electoral Institute (IEEH) has established strict requirements for political party registration, noting that parties risk losing their status if they fail to secure at least 3 percent of the valid vote in municipal or local deputy elections.

Following these regulatory standards, the IEEH General Council approved the removal of the local political party Espacio Hidalgo from the official registry. The decision was made after a triennial verification process revealed the party failed to meet the required 6,212 valid affiliations, verifying only 5,755. Although the party maintained a presence in 56 of the state’s 84 municipalities, it failed to rectify membership discrepancies within a 30-day window.

In response, Espacio Hidalgo representative Romina Jiménez Bárcena has rejected the determination and announced intentions to appeal, questioning the application of triennial verification to a party that has only existed for two years.
