High-risk obstetric medical procedures in Vietnam

Medical professionals in Vietnam have successfully managed several complex and high-risk pregnancies using advanced surgical interventions.

In Can Tho, specialists at Phuong Chau International Hospital utilized laparoscopic abdominal cerclage to prevent preterm birth for a patient with a history of cervical insufficiency. This patient, who had previously lost a child at 22 weeks and experienced threatened preterm labor despite a vaginal cerclage, was able to carry the pregnancy to term, resulting in the birth of a healthy baby girl at 38 weeks.

In Hanoi, medical teams addressed severe maternal complications through emergency C-sections. At the Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, surgeons managed a delivery involving extreme obesity and polyhydramnios. Concurrently, at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology, doctors performed an emergency C-section for a 38-year-old patient with metastatic breast cancer. The patient presented with bone and mediastinal metastases causing respiratory distress; using a combination of low-dose spinal and epidural anesthesia, surgeons successfully delivered the baby at 34 weeks, after which the mother’s condition stabilized.
