Hillary Clinton criticisms of Donald Trump

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has continued her criticisms of President Donald Trump, focusing on both his domestic aesthetic choices and his foreign policy priorities. Regarding domestic issues, Clinton has characterized the administration’s use of gold-leafed decor and the demolition of the East Wing for a new ballroom as “vulgar,” comparing the aesthetic to that of Saddam Hussein. In an interview with Kara Swisher, she described the use of gold embellishments in the Oval Office as “insane” and “tacky,” suggesting the president is more interested in “where can I add more gold?” than in diplomatic matters. She further described the unfinished ballroom project as a “carbuncle on the side of the White House” and indicated she is “making a list” of items for a future administration to remove. A White House spokesperson, Davis Ingle, responded to these remarks by noting that Clinton did not redecorate during her tenure, pointing out she did not have the opportunity to decorate the Oval Office due to her defeat in the 2016 election. On the international stage, Clinton has alleged that the administration is showing more favor toward North Korea and Russia than toward traditional allies such as Canada and Oman. This follows President Trump’s description of North Korea as a country that has been “respectful” during his terms, as well as his threat to bomb Oman “mercilessly” if the nation interferes in diplomatic dialogues regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Clinton suggested these approaches are distancing the United States from its long-standing partners. More recently, Clinton suggested that Trump values approval from Russian President Vladimir Putin more than winning a Nobel Peace Prize.
