Historical cemetery and martyrdom restorations in Turkey
Overview
Various restoration and archaeological projects are being conducted at historical cemetery and martyrdom sites in Turkey.
In Afyonkarahisar, students from the İscehisar Hacı Süleyman Selek Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, in collaboration with the 5th Regional Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, completed the restoration of 510 tombstones at the Dumlupınar Martyrdom. The project involved cutting, engraving, painting, and placing new stones.
In Malatya, restoration and archaeological work is underway at the Kırk Kardeşler Cemetery in the Battalgazi district. Approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the project aims to uncover and restore graves and tombstones from the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. The site, located along the historic Silk Road, includes two mausoleums and various grave styles featuring floral and geometric motifs.
