Ho Chi Minh City leadership election and personnel changes

Following the election of Trương Minh Huy Vũ as Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on September 21, 2026, the city has undergone broader leadership transitions across its municipal government and security sectors.

During the 5th session of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Mr. Vũ, the former Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies, was elected to the position for the 2026–2031 term, receiving 118 out of 120 votes. Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng has since officially approved the election results. Mr. Vũ holds a doctorate in International Political Economy, is a member of the 16th National Assembly, and serves as the Chairman of the Executive Agency of the International Financial Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to Mr. Vũ’s appointment, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee announced that Nguyễn Sinh Nhật Tân, the former Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term.

Changes also extended to the security forces. The Ministry of Public Security appointed Colonel Bùi Thanh Trực as Head of the Criminal Judgment Execution Agency and Colonel Lê Công Anh as Head of the Security Investigation Agency, both serving as Deputy Directors of the Ho Chi Minh City Police. Concurrently, Colonel Nguyễn Đình Dương, a Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, was transferred to become the Director of the Hue City Police.
