Ho Chi Minh City is advancing large-scale urban renewal and infrastructure initiatives. A major program scheduled between 2026 and 2030 aims to relocate 41,540 households living along canals and rivers through 115 projects. Following its July 1, 2025, merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces, the city has become the fourth largest megacity in Southeast Asia, with a population of approximately 14 million. This expansion is shifting the economic structure toward industrial and construction sectors, supported by the approved Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Zone. Infrastructure development continues to expand regional connectivity. The city is promoting a sea-crossing project connecting Can Gio to Vung Tau, estimated at over 92,600 billion VND. Additionally, the city has adjusted the investment plan for the Phu My 2 Bridge project, a public-private partnership (PPP) model with a revised total investment of nearly 22,000 billion VND.
