Hofstade swimming complex development

Overview

The municipalities of Zemst, Boortmeerbeek, and Mechelen have reached a principle agreement with the Flemish government to build a new swimming complex at the Sport Vlaanderen Hofstade site.

The estimated 52 million euro project will utilize a public-private partnership model, with a private partner managing the design, construction, financing, maintenance, and operation for 30 years. The facility is intended to serve both elite sports through Sport Vlaanderen and local residents, schools, and clubs. Planned infrastructure includes a 50-meter competition pool, a 25-meter instruction pool, and a toddler pool. To maintain affordability, partners will provide an annual operating allowance, and local residents will receive preferential rates.
