Holcim acquisition of Fermacell from James Hardie

Overview

Holcim has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire Fermacell, a provider of gypsum fibre and cement-bonded board solutions, from James Hardie Industries plc. The transaction is valued at approximately 840 million euros and is intended to support Holcim’s ‘Next-Gen Growth 2030’ strategy by expanding its modular construction and integrated building systems offerings.

James Hardie plans to use approximately 600 million USD of the acquisition proceeds to reduce debt and has authorized a 250 million USD share buyback program. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, pending antitrust approvals and employee consultations.

In parallel with these corporate developments, James Hardie has introduced a digital floor planning tool for fermacell® products. The tool is designed to assist architects and installers by generating customized solution proposals based on project-specific requirements such as sound insulation, fire protection, and moisture protection.
