Homelessness support initiatives in Victoria

Overview

In Victoria, Canada, city officials are considering a motion to establish safer daytime spaces for the unhoused population. The proposal, introduced by Mayor Marianne Alto and Councillors Matt Dell and Susan Kim, seeks to provide residents living in parks and on streets with locations to access health, housing, and other essential supports.

The initiative involves potential collaboration with Island Health and BC Housing to secure operational funding and utilize various properties. This follows previous city-led efforts that included moving over 200 people from the streets to housing and opening 97 new shelter and recovery housing spaces.
