Homicide investigations in Haina, Dominican Republic

Overview

In late August 2026, authorities in Haina, San Cristóbal, began investigating the death of Esther Salomé, a 26-year-old Penitentiary Police agent, following a stabbing in the El Castigue sector. Preliminary reports identified her former partner as the primary suspect in what was being investigated as a potential feminicide.

In late September 2026, a separate homicide investigation in the Haina vicinity led to the arrest of José Luis Fabián Rodríguez. The arrest followed the discovery of the body of 37-year-old Loyca Alvarado Adames, who had been reported missing. Unlike the previous stabbing incident, Alvarado’s body showed a gunshot wound. Family members noted that Alvarado had previously attempted to report harassment and aggression by her ex-partner to authorities, but claimed the reports were not formally received at that time.
