Homicide suspect arrests in Costa Rica
Overview
In late September 2026, Costa Rican authorities conducted separate operations resulting in the arrest of homicide suspects.
On September 22, judicial investigation agents from the Limón Regional Delegation of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) apprehended a 27-year-old man, identified as Samudio, following a pursuit on Route 32. The arrest was linked to the February 16 homicide of a man named Salazar in central Limón. The suspect reportedly collided with a police vehicle and a guardrail while attempting to flee.
On September 30, public forces arrested a Panamanian national, identified as Cortez, in the San Jorge neighborhood of Paso Canoas. Cortez was wanted in Panama for aggravated homicide. During the intervention, which involved a flight attempt that caused minor injuries to an officer, authorities seized a firearm, various rounds of ammunition, a mask, and quantities of apparent crack cocaine alongside cash.
